APRIL GARDEN TO DO’S

April 1st, 2019

By no means do I mean that you can start with this list on April 1st. Weather and ground conditions are the determining factor. But there certainly are a few things you can get started on sooner rather than later.

  • Start Annual Flower Seed and some Veggie seeds, check last frost dates. Some seed can be saved for direct sowing.

  • You can clean out your winter arrangements and plants some cool season pansies, potted bulbs and forsythia branches to brighten up your entrance.

  • Call Arborist for Mature trees: leave the pruning of these to the Pro’s

  • When the Forsythia is blooming it is time to spread Corn Gluten pellets as a weed inhibitor. The Corn Gluten will coat the weed seeds and prevent them from germinating… our weeds germinate earlier than our grass.

  • Most of April may be too early for grass seed. Seed needs evening temperatures to be above 16 degrees to germinate

  • Make note of perennials that you want to divide and where else they can go in your garden

  • Pot up perennials that you will not be using and donate to friends or local plant sale
